WHEELCHAIRÂ VEHICLE TRANSFER DEVICE
PROJECT SCOPE
There is a need for a device that safely maneuvers an elderly individual that relies on a wheelchair into and out of standard-sized vehicles while not relying totally on the upper body strength of the user and still being compact enough to easily store within the vehicle after use. We propose to deliver a portable and easily usable device that can be used by an elderly individual with the help of a caretaker. Because this device may need to be lifted in and out of cars or a wheelchair repetitively, it must be lightweight enough to manipulate repeatedly without significant user fatigue. In addition, the setup, use, and dismantling of this device must be efficiently done under five minutes in order to make the process time equitable. Finally, this device must cause no harm to the disabled person or to the individual assisting this subject under any circumstance. We will deliver a functioning prototype of this device by April 2018.
